MINDLESS SCRAWL OR STREET ART

GRAFFITI LOUNGE

A place to kick back, relax and marvel in Urban Culture

You really are not a photographer if you don’t like photographing Street Art / Graffiti ( FACT )

I have to admit I have a total fetish for it and cannot walk past any type of Street Art without taking time to capture it at its best

Sometimes this means photographing it as a full piece, but quite often I like to concentrate on small aspects - creating “Art from Art”

The irony of many does not pass me by, with their sharp whit and often anti establishment slogans they often make me laugh out loud

Now ……. I don’t mean the mindless scrawl you see on EVERY wall across Italy

…. but I mean “art” that adorns many city walls and doorways that requires both planning and immense skills

Although not a fan of “Tagging” it can on occasion create it’s own legitimate style

There seems to an acceptance of its place in many cities now - many of which actively encourage it and even commission it to help soften and “visualize the urban environment”

Graffiti is evolving though which I first noticed while on assignment for my Book Cover Photography work

while walking in the madness that is New York

A large part of this new Street Art sub culture is not actually created using traditional aerosol cans of spray paint at all. It is created using printed art onto paper and then pasted onto walls and doors and then often “worked on” to finesse it in situ.

This new style of Street Art is often referred to as Paste-Up Art or Wheatpaste Art (due to the glues involved)

So is this Graffiti?

A different style for sure but just as effective if albeit on a smaller scale

Here is a small portion of what I have captured over the years and a collection that grows by the day

Many of these photographs are now available in my PRINT SHOP

Available as limited-edition, handcrafted giclee fine art prints exclusive to just 50 prints each

Perfect for adding a touch of sophistication and enhancing the ambience to any modern office, home, or gallery
