ETHICS STATEMENT

WELL I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO WRITE STATEMENT ABOUT ETHICS WITH REGARDS MY PHOTOGRAPHY…… AND YET HERE WE ARE…… SADLY

WHY?

WHY ……. AM I WRITING AN ETHICS STATEMENT?

Unfortunately with the advent of ai programs i feel it is very important to clarify a few issues for the people who buy my Fine Art Photography Prints and also to all my commercial clients

FIRST AND FOREMOST - Ai is ……. ETHICALLY NOTHING SHORT OF THEFT

SO ….. For all my fine art print buyers you can be 100% confident that any print you buy from Dave Wall Photo will be 100% my own work and not stolen from various sources and manipulated

…… and for all my commercial clients rest assured that the work that I undertake on your behalf is also 100% my own to ensure you do not encounter any copyright issues later down the line

If any clarification is needed

Dave Wall Photo will never create images in this fashion as it is ethically wrong

if i am the last bastion in this respect

then so be it…….

I have not come this far, trained so hard, and created the brand i have

to destroy it all in such a lazy deceitful way !!

BUT WHAT IS AI?

I think it's very important at this stage to explain about ai and how it works in simple terms

Ai also known as “artificial intelligence” and is a machine learning tool, it learns through analysis and repetition

To “create” an ai image you need no skills and nothing more than imagination, computer and keyboard. then by typing in keyword phrases to explain your ideas into you computer - an image  magically appears based upon these phrases

The problem with ai as it stands at present (in 2023) is simple

To enable these Ai programs to “create” images they first need have images to analyse. To do this they need to propagate their own empty databases until they are full of images

To achieve this they “harvest” images off the internet - 1,000,000’s of images without the original authors permission (whether that be photographers, illustrators or painters)

In general they use low resolution thumbnail images from image libraries as they are by far the largest source of images on the planet

From here the program has enough information to be able to “create” new images

Unfortunately as it stands at present these programs are breaking multiple copyright laws for every image they create; as the original authors do not know their images have been taken without their consent and not been paid for the usage

Legally this is very dubious business practice and a number of class action law suits are already being lodged in multiple countries

if proof were needed Ai is not required

after all it is why you hire a professional photographer
