Il Giardino Delle Rose by Christianna Brand

Il Giardino Delle Rose by Christianna Brand

An Italian book cover this week by Christianna Brand titled The Rose Garden. I won't lie I am not the biggest fan of the design but it is part of a collection of books that all look the same so it can be excused. As for the photograph itself it is actally a composite created by myself. The hand and the gun were photographed in my studio in Manchester, UK and are mine. The window behind were shot in the Czech Republic while away on assignment.

A Sarkanyolo by Leif G.W. Persson

A Sarkanyolo by Leif G.W. Persson

A Latvian cover this week (according to Google that is) and if so my first !! As for the translation ---- Google has NO IDEA !! So if you are good at Latvian ---- please leave a translation at the bottom of the page in the comments box !!

As for the image ----- well what can I say ?

Stunning model ----- ha ha ha ---- yes it is me !!

The image of myself was taken many many moons ago in my studio in Manchester,UK while testing the lighting for a model that was due to be photographed later that day. The door was taken years later in an old RAF base near Manchester that has now sadly been demolished. Pop them both together, add some texture and some blood and there you have it ------ one scary psychopath !!

In Der Schusslinie by Torkil Damhaug

In Der Schusslinie by Torkil Damhaug

Another German book cover this week by Torkil Damhaug. Google translate is saying "In the shooting Line" but my guess is more "in the line of fire" ..... but hey Google is more than likely correct.

The image itself has actually sold on numerous occasions but everytime I see it i just love it simplicity. The image was taken in an old Mental Asylum ( I hang out in the most glamorous of places ) in deepest darkest Wales, UK. The blood added later in Photoshop

Tanz Puppchen Tanz by Joy Fielding

Tanz Puppchen Tanz

A German book cover this week by Jo Fielding. Tanz Puppchen Tanz translated it says DANCE PUPPET DANCE. Another quite old image here but from a set of images that i REALLY enjoyed creating. Ever since I was a kid I have been fascinated by Dandelion Clocks and how delicate they are. This becomes even more apparent when you study them through your camera lens !! This was literally the last frame from the session before the "beautiful weed" was no more.

The Pavement Project

I am pleased to announce a new an ongoing fine art photography project entitled "The Pavement Project".

A collection of images based around the beauty that is beneath our feet that we literally just walk past oblivious to it's existence.

I realize many just won't "get it" and if so I have succeeded. Art should challenge the senses, confuse the mind and inspire the soul ....... enjoy

A L'ombre Du Baron by fabienne Josaphat

A L'ombre Du Baron by fabienne Josaphat

A French book cover this week --- A L'ombre Du Baron -- or -- In the shadow of the Baron

(thank you Google Translate).

This image is quite an old one taken in my studio In Manchester, UK of a model friend of mine called Florida. The colour version of this image glows as it was taken with what is called "Black Light" (the same as you find in nightclubs and makes anything white -- usually ladies bras --- glow). This is why the model has talc on her face as it glowed with an amazing intensity, as did the white painted lips.

I am really please that this image made it onto a book cover as this was the first time Florida had ever modeled !!

The Fallen by Eric Van Lustbader

The Fallen by Eric Van Lustbader

Yet ANOTHER composite image this week ---- they really are the trend at the moment with designers ! The girl, wings and shadow have all been added after by the designer and the main body of the image is my photograph. The image itself was taken in the cloisters of an English church (who's name escapes me). The light was just perfect streaming trough the windows. The VERY bright orange tint has been added at the design stage to help it "jump off" the bookshelf at passers by in the bookstore.

Obsession by amanda Robinson

Obsession by Amanda Robinson

A really simple book cover this week. Photographed in London on my first night walking the streets on while on assignment. Although the image below is VERY colourful in reality it wasn't. Yes there was a blue hue to the image as it was what us photographers call "blue hour". The original curtains weren't red at all (I changed that in Photoshop to represent a brothel) -- opppsss ---- sorry house owner !!

Hard News by Jeffery Deaver

Hard News by Jeffery Deaver

I always LOVE getting my images on the front cover ofa Jeffery Deaver novel !

Having met the man himself and chatted about his love of photography (for all the geeks out there he has a Sony RX1) I always get a buzz when my images are picked above all others.

This actual image was taken in the early hours while walking the streets of New York when assignment there. I "straight" image with no manipulation (which is quite rare for me) -- but sometimes "less is more"

LAGRETT BY LENA OLLMARK

LAGRETT BY LENA OLLMARK

A Norwegian (I think -- according to Google translate) book cover this week by Lena Ollmark. It is yet again another composite image (which seems to be a trend at the moment) and is made up of 3 images. The foreground white cross, the figure and the ethereal trees. The trees are my contribution to the image and were photographed in deepest darkest Wales on an infrared converted camera, giving that ghostly quality to the image.

Lagret (according to Google Translate means) .... saved

The Dragonfly is my contribution to this composite image created by the book cover designer. Bought on Ebay and photographed in my studio in Manchester, UK. This Dragonfly is getting quite famous in the book publishing world as it keeps getting chosen for more and more book covers !!

A lovely cleanly designed cover --- one of my favourites !!

A French cover this week " The Dread" -- according to Google Translate. An image taken a number of years ago in an old abandoned cinema / theater in my home town. Once so grand and now falling into disrepair -- such a shame as in its day it must have been staggering !

The Four Horsemen

The Four Horsemen

by

Gregory Dowling

A cover this week that has been extensivly rewrked by the designer (as is their perogative).

The origianl image was the stone pillars and "blood puddle" ..... which is just a puddle coloured red, shot in Liverpool Uk of all places.

The designer has then moved the right pillar to the right and added the monk figure and also placed a scene of Venice in the background.
