The New Wife --- Jane Corry
An Italian cover this week by Jane Corry. The actual photograph was taken while on vacation in The Cotswolds in the UK in an old historic building. The original photograph was a little lifeless so I decided to add an ethereal glow in Photoshop to create a point of interest.
Simple but effective book cover design helps and allows the image to breath
Do not forget me --- Rick Mofina
Yet another German cover this week ---- one of my most popular locations that my work ends up. The image itself however was captured in Prague while on location shooting specifically for my stock photography. A very simple image with me adding the blood while back at the office in Photoshop ---- and then the book cover designer adding some more for good measure !!
When your time is gone --- Mary Higgins Clarke
Another Mary Higgins Clark cover this week but this is from Germany.
The image that I created here in my studio in Manchester UK.
The hourglass was photographed full of sand taking care the highlights were placed exactly where I required them. Then using the same lighting setup I photographed a wine glass full of fake blood from different angles and also a "blood drip".
Thenit was a matter of "not so simply" compositing all the elements together.
Pojdz na sad bozy by Ziomecki Mariusz
WOW ---- according to Google this is a book from Madagascar (which if correct is a first for me). As for the translation ----- Google without a doubt got it wrong so, sorry I have no idea !!
What I can tell you about though is the photograph that adorns the book cover. I was in the North East of England on location assignment and a good friend of mine (also a photographer) called Alan Clarke asked if he could join me. The answer was an obvious "yes" but on the proviso he would model for me. So model he did --- he even brought an axe for good measure (to this day I have never actually asked why) !!
Depraved Heart by Patricia Cornwell
What can I say ..... when your photograph ends up as a book cover on a Patricia Cornwell novel you can't help but smile!
The photograph was taken while on assignment in Malta a number of years ago in a subway, the "speed lines" were added when I returned home in Photoshop.
De Dichter by Michael Connelly
Yet another German book cover this week called "The Poet". I love this image and others seem to also as it has been on constant different book covers for years. The photograph itself was taken while on assignment in Alife, Italy. It was an old vintage car on a farm and was being used a chicken coop. It was full of cobwebs, mold and chicken poop ...... my kind of place!!
Acqua Morta by Michele Catozzi
Yet another Italian book cover this week by Michelle Catozzi.
Transalted it says --- Dead Water: An Aldani Commissioner's Survey
Not the catchiest title (again) but I just love the cover! The image iteslf was taken on a foggy day in Venice while away on assignment, shooting in the fog has helped lose any distracting elements in the background. Then back at home the texture and blood were added for drama.
Die Familiengruft by Charlotte MacLeod
Another German book cover this week (although actually an Audio Book) ----- translated means
The Family Crypt
The photograph was taken in a graveyard in Prague while in the Czech Republic on assignment, the blood was added later in Photoshop.
14 Subat Icin 14 Yazardan 14 Karanlik Oyku by Askin Karanlik Yuzu
A Turkish book cover this week called (which I am SURE Google translate has got wrong)
14th February: 14 Words: 14 Dark Curses
The image itself is yet again a Photoshop indulgence of mine. I just love the shape of a heart and (as most of you know) I add blood to LOTS of my images --- even though I am hemophobic !
Under Heaven by Guy Gavriel Kay
A great piece of design work on this weeks book cover!! The image itself was very simplistic in nature and was taken at a re-enactment weekend ---- the designers have then made it into a very cohesive cover with great colour harmony.
Murder on the Minneapolis by Anita Davison
An American book cover this week that doesn't need a great deal of explanation. A set of vintage suitcases photographed at a re-enactment weekend a number of years ago with a little ageing in Photoshop for good measure.
A Spanish book cover this week by Jostein Gaarder calledThe Enigma Of The Solitaire.
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this cover !!!!
The image of the jester was created by myself for a set of Training videos for Arcangel Images (the picture library who represent me). It started life as a photograph of a Joker playing card and was blended with a piece of art I created in my youth (many many years ago). I love the way the designers have left it clean and free from clutter !
Un'Indagine del commissario aldani
by Michelle Catozzi
An Italian book cover this week by Michelle Catozzi.
Transalted it says --- Black Lagoon: An Aldain Commissioner's Survey.
Not the catchiest title but I just love the cover! Plain and simple and not touched by the design team at all, in fact they have done a great job using the colours within the image and transferring it into the text. The image iteslf was taken on a foggy day in Venice while away on assignment.
Il Giardino Delle Rose by Christianna Brand
An Italian book cover this week by Christianna Brand titled The Rose Garden. I won't lie I am not the biggest fan of the design but it is part of a collection of books that all look the same so it can be excused. As for the photograph itself it is actally a composite created by myself. The hand and the gun were photographed in my studio in Manchester, UK and are mine. The window behind were shot in the Czech Republic while away on assignment.
A Sarkanyolo by Leif G.W. Persson
A Latvian cover this week (according to Google that is) and if so my first !! As for the translation ---- Google has NO IDEA !! So if you are good at Latvian ---- please leave a translation at the bottom of the page in the comments box !!
As for the image ----- well what can I say ?
Stunning model ----- ha ha ha ---- yes it is me !!
The image of myself was taken many many moons ago in my studio in Manchester,UK while testing the lighting for a model that was due to be photographed later that day. The door was taken years later in an old RAF base near Manchester that has now sadly been demolished. Pop them both together, add some texture and some blood and there you have it ------ one scary psychopath !!
Brut Des Teufels by Stephen Leather
..... and here we go again ANOTHER German book cover this week !!
Google translate says "Brood of the Devil" and who am I to argue !
Yet another composite book cover created by the designers --- The Pentacle is my creation.
Created byphotographing sparklers in the studio and painstakingly piecing them together in Photoshop.
How excited am I ??

In Der Schusslinie by Torkil Damhaug
Another German book cover this week by Torkil Damhaug. Google translate is saying "In the shooting Line" but my guess is more "in the line of fire" ..... but hey Google is more than likely correct.
The image itself has actually sold on numerous occasions but everytime I see it i just love it simplicity. The image was taken in an old Mental Asylum ( I hang out in the most glamorous of places ) in deepest darkest Wales, UK. The blood added later in Photoshop
Tanz Puppchen Tanz
A German book cover this week by Jo Fielding. Tanz Puppchen Tanz translated it says DANCE PUPPET DANCE. Another quite old image here but from a set of images that i REALLY enjoyed creating. Ever since I was a kid I have been fascinated by Dandelion Clocks and how delicate they are. This becomes even more apparent when you study them through your camera lens !! This was literally the last frame from the session before the "beautiful weed" was no more.
